NIKHIL ENTERPRISE
has developed a permanent tack adhesive SUPERPLAST
for the textile printing industry. It is a thermoplastic
resin which, when applied to any surface, on drying
leaves a permanent tack on its surface at any desired
temperature. This tack is sufficient to hold the fabric
being printed in place, and after printing releases
the fabric without any of the adhesive sticking on the
fabric.
Fore the efficient and accurate printing
one should attach the fabric firmly on either a table
or blanket during the process of printing. Generally
this is carried out either by pinning or sticking the
fabric on a printing surface with the help of water
soluble adhesive, gum CMC, PVA solution, etc.
The use of water soluble adhesives
often cause patchy effects on blotch prints due to uneven
application, reduces even penetration of printing paste
in to the fabric, and like printing has to be repeated
after every printing cycle.
The application of waxes is extremely
tedious and has to be repeated very often, hampering
production. It is affected by kerosene emulsion which
is another serious disadvantage.
These methods are not only time consuming,
but also result is possible damage to valuable material
leading to higher production costs and inferior quality
printing SUPERPLAST series of adhesive eliminate
all these drawbacks. The use of SUPERPLAST increases
production manifold by reducing the printing cycle,
sharp and clear prints are obtained due to uniform adhesive
of fabric and eliminates damage due to slippage.
The various types of SUPERPLAST
adhesive being marketed are as under :
1. SUPERPLAST
- 80
2. SUPERPLAST - 30
3. SUPERPLAST - 50
SUPERPLAST - 80 brand SUPERPLAST
- 30 and SUPERPLAST - 50 brand are definitely
the more durable and versatile of adhesives as they
are totally unaffected by water as well as kerosene.
This resistance to kerosene makes the adhesive eminently
suitable for printing all types of fabrics be they cotton,
art silk, silks or synthetic with gum thickenings and
/ or kerosene emulsions.
SUPERPLAST 30 has tack at
room temperature, whereas SUPERPLAST 80 is activated
at temperature between 55 to 600 C. Further, the film
formed form SUPERPLAST 80 is harder then that
of SUPERPLAST 30 and hence it will be observed
that the more the quantity of SUPERPLAST 80 that
is blended with SUPERPLAST 30 the more will be
the durability of the SUPERPLAST surface.
SUPERPLAST - 50 is a single
component product can be used when blending with other
brands of SUPERPLAST - 80 and SUPERPLAST -
30 as such for application on rubber blankets.
APPLICATION
OF SUPERPLAST :
The application of SUPERPLAST is a specialized job,
but one with any printer can easily master with the
right technique and a little practice. Of prime importance
( if the SUPERPLAST surface is to be effective ) is
the absolute evenness of the coating applied on the
blanket or table. The application when once started
has to be continuos along along the entire length of
the surface on which the fabric is to be printed.
ON MACHINES
:
The adhesive is applied on the blanket of the machine
with the help of the squeeze provided the motion of
the blanket being slow and continuous. The speed of
the blanket is to be controlled ( where possible ) so
that the adhesive dries before it comes into contact
with any of the guide rollers provided to support the
blanket. It is absolutely essential that the blanket
movement is kept continuous from start to finish as
any stoppage would lead to an uneven application, the
line or mark thus made would appear on the fabric especially
finer and thinner quality fabrics at every printing
cycle.
| APPLICATION
PROCEDURE : |
| 1. |
The surface of the
blanket should be thoroughly cleaned before commencing
the SUPERPLAST as any dirt or impurity will prevent
uniform adhesive of SUPERPLAST on blanket. The blanket
should first be cleaned with detergent and water,
kerosene and finally with solvent SC to remove traces
of oil and dyestuff. |
| 2. |
The surrounding
area should also be cleaned to prevent dust and
fibres from depositing on the adhesive during application. |
| 3. |
The guide rollers
should be thoroughly cleaned before commencing application.
The guide rollers should preferably be PTFE coated,
however ebonite coated rollers are acceptable. M.S.
or rubber coated guide rollers should be evenly
covered with a during application. |
| 4. |
The washing unit
should not be in contact with the blanket during
application and care should be taken to ensure that
no water comes into contact with the adhesive during
application. |
| 5. |
For an initial coating,
about 1kg. SUPERPLAST should cover approximately
10 sq. meters. Subsequent overcoat can be about
1/3 the initial quantity. |
| 6. |
After completion
of application of a new coat of SUPERPLAST on a
blanket at least 4hours should be given for the
adhesive to dry completely with the blanket in continuous
motion. If the blanket stops when the adhesive is
slightly wet then it will adhere very strongly to
the guide roller and on subsequent starting of the
machine, may peel of the adhesive making the surface
uneven. |
| 7. |
It is advisable
to completely remove the adhesive coating whenever
it becomes uneven due to repeated application and
fluff deposition. |
ON TABLE
:
SUPERPLAST is applied on tables with the help of a rubber
squeeze whose size is the breadth of the table on which
the adhesive is to be applied. the adhesive after necessary
dilution should be applied with one continuous sweep
of the squeeze, taking care not to stop along the entire
length. This can be done with two people on either side
of the table holding the squeeze while applying an even
pressure all along the length, while a third person
moves ahead pouring out the adhesive in front of the
squeeze to effect an even coating. This calls for a
certain amount of practice and co-ordination.
| APPLICATION
PROCEDURE : |
| 1. |
The
table should be thoroughly cleaned with detergent
and Butyl / Ethyl Acetate prior to application of
SUPERPLAST. |
| 2. |
The squeezee should
be absolutely even and so should the pressure on
the squeezee, during application. |
| 3. |
Approx.
1kg SUPERPLAST should be spread over 10sq. meters
of table for a new coating whereas 1/3 the quantity
should be sufficient for an over coat on the same
area. |
| 4. |
The amount of SUPERPLAST
being poured in front of the squeezee during application
should be controlled so that there is always some
adhesive along the squeezee, but not so much as
to come out from either side of the squeeze. |
| 5. |
Sufficient time
should be given for the adhesive to dry completely
prior to starting printing. Four hours should normally
be sufficient. However, printing can be started
½ hour after an over coating has been given. |
